2011 World Series Preview and Predictions
Texas Rangers
The Rangers have surprised this year many baseball fans, possibly even their own, by making it into the World Series for the second time, last year having lost to the San Francisco Giants, 4 to 1. With two new important players on the team, Beltré and Napoli, the Rangers won their 5 American League Western division title after an impressive season in which they recorded 96 wins, establishing a new season best.
Not only did the Texas Rangers earn the most shutouts in the league, but they also had 3 players getting 30 or more home runs, setting a new record. On their way to the World Series, the Ranger beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in the Division Series, and the Detroit Tigers 4-1 in the Championship Series. Because of their impressive season, the Rangers were considered favorites in their matches with the Cardinals.
St. Louis Cardinals
Making their appearance in the World Series for the second time in the last 5 years – in 2006 they have beaten the Detroit Tigers hands down, 4-1 -, St. Louis Cardinals have had a fabulous late-season comeback, regarded as one of the most impressive in the whole history of the game. The team joined the post season thanks to the National League Wild Card, surmounting a 10 ½ game deficit over the Atlanta Braves, leaders of the Wild Card, winning 23 games of their final 32 games. September was a month that the Cardinals will not easily forget: the team recorded 18-8, while their rivals for the Wild Card, the Atlanta Braves recorded 9-18. In the post season the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in the Division Series, and then won their Championship Series with a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals definitely have the momentum, and they will be a hard nut to crack for the Texas Rangers.
World Series Baseball Prediction
This year's World Series are hard to predict. Few would have put their money on a match between the Cardinals and the Rangers – those who did are probably rich now. Still, we can at least look at the obvious advantages and disadvantages that each team has.
• The Cardinals have home field advantage, the last two games being played on their field. If it gets to that, which is likely considering how the first two matches went, then the Cardinals will have an ace up their sleeve: their great fans.
What's more, the team has been in excellent shape lately, and they may use this momentum to their advantage.
• The Rangers have the disadvantage of playing fewer matches on their home ground, yet they have three consecutive ones in Texas. It's 1-1 between the teams now, so the Rangers may pull off three consecutive wins on their home ground and claim the series. Also, the Rangers have had an excellent season, constancy being their biggest advantage.
In the end, it's an interesting contest: will the Rangers, who have been constant during all the baseball season, prevail?
Or will the Cardinals, who have been building steam in the last months, record a fantastic win, after a momentous comeback? |
