Texas Hold'em Strategy

In order to be a truly outstanding online Texas Hold’em poker player you must develop your skills to read your opponents. Knowing when they are bluffing and when they do have a premium hand is vital when playing poker.

You should start gaining more skills by learning the general rules of poker and the basic strategies. And after that it’s going to take some time to get familiar with everything before you can finally say you are a skilled player and can take a lot of challenges that an online game of poker can bring you.

Always remember two things

Many beginner players will get all swept up by the excitement of playing poker and they will forget the basics of playing poker.

Make sure that you remember two important things when you are playing poker:

1. The pocket cards that you have in front of you are the only variable that is able to set you apart from the other players and they are the ones that give you the chance to win.

2. The community cards can be seen and shared with all other players. This is the reason why you should also focus on what those cards could mean to the other players just like you are concentrating on what these cards mean to you. This means that you will have to keep your eyes opened and look for the possibility of your opponents to have a straight or a flush.

How to evaluate your cards

The first step and action you will take at a Texas Hold’em game is going to be based on the two pocket cards that you have. The moment you look at your two cards make sure that you will not reveal anything. And in case you are going to play at a live table, it’s going to be even harder to keep your face clear of emotions while playing.

In order to evaluate your cards the most accurate there are many factors that you should take into consideration. One of the main strategies is to fold the cards before the flop in case you have a low rated hand like non pair cards, both of them are less than 10. Some more conservative players are even folding their cards before the flop in case they do have only one card which is smaller than 10. However some players that love to play a little bit more aggressive will go ahead and call the moment they have an 89 which are the same suit. They are doing this because they do have a chance to get a straight or even a flush with these cards.

In case the big blind is small enough you could even afford to pay it so that you will see the flop cards, even if you don’t really have a good hand, the 3 cards from the flop might give you a better idea of what’s next to happen in that hand. However you shouldn’t abuse this exception from the rule, because it can really get you into trouble a lot faster than you would have ever imagine.

A lot of the strategies that you have to use in order to win a Texas Hold’em game are going to be based on the cards that you are getting. This means that you will have to suffer a lot during the moments you get some really poor hands like 5-8, 4-7 or 3-6. You will have to be patient and wait for a better hand.
